Who is a Transfer-In Student

You are a Transfer-In student if you attended another college or university and are enrolling at SBCC to continue your education. Your completed coursework may be evaluated for credit toward a certificate or degree at SBCC, toward transfer or to meet prerequisites for classes at SBCC.   

  •  New transfer-in students are not required to meet with a counselor before registration.

Transfer-In Student Checklist

  1. Transcript Evaluation
  • Submit official transcripts from ALL previously attended colleges to Admissions and Records.
  • If you attended a California Community College, you can have your transcripts evaluated by the Transcript Evaluation Office (TEO). 
  • If you need a prerequisite evaluated submit your request to the Transcript Evaluation Office (TEO).

  1. Academic Counseling Appointments 
  • Remote counseling appointments are available starting December 2, 2024.
  • To schedule, complete the request form beginning November 26, 2024.  (see link below).

Requirements to request an appointment:

1. Apply to SBCC for Spring 2025

2. Have your SBCC student ID number. (K number) 

3. Have access to your SBCC campus email. 

4. Upload copies of transcript(s) from all schools attended into the request form. 

 

  1. What to Expect at Your Appointment

Counselors will:

  • Create a student educational plan (SEP).
  • Start the transcript evaluation process.

 

  1. Transcript Evaluation Process
  • If you attended a California Community College, your transcripts will be evaluated by the Transcript Evaluation Office (TEO)
  • It can take up to 3 months for non California Community College transcripts for specific courses requiring SBCC department review.

Important : For coursework completed outside the California Community College system, providing course syllabi can speed up the process. Math and English courses require syllabi for course evaluation.

 

We understand that registration can be a busy time for everyone. Please be patient as the Academic Counseling Center (ACC) works to assist continuing, new-to-college, returning and transfer-in students.
