Transfer Student Milestones by Units Completed

15-30 Transferable Units

  • Choose your major.
  • Identify top 3-4 transfer colleges/universities of your choice.
  • Update your SEP with the major preparation coursework required for your colleges/universities of your choice.
  • Attend college outreach events and meet with college/university admissions representatives in the University Transfer Center.
  • Work with a counselor to create a transfer timeline that will prepare you for admission application dates.
  • Familiarize yourself with the Western Undergraduate Exchange
  • Update your resume and begin participating in major specific internships, volunteering, or leadership activities.
  • Many private and out of state college/university options are available for transfer students beginning at 24-30 transferable units. Discuss this option with a counselor if you are interested.

30-45 Transferable Units

45-60 Transferable Units

  • Deadlines are of utmost importance during this period!
  • Notify campuses directly of any changes to your spring schedule.
  • The CSU system "Golden 4" courses must be completed by the Spring term for Fall transfer.
  • Send official transcripts to all colleges/universities requesting them. See Admissions and Records.
  • Transfer Academic Updates with Fall grades are required for the UC and CSU systems in January.
  • Apply for Scholarships
  • Request letters of recommendation.
  • Petition to receive an Associate Degree for Transfer.  Students transferring to the CSU System in the Fall must complete all degree requirements by the prior spring. Students transferring to the CSU system in the Spring must complete all degree requirements by the prior Summer.
  • Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) is due May 1 for CSU system schools and June 1 for UC system schools.
  • Submit college/university housing forms and attend transfer student orientations.
